INSTALLING REFILL CARTRIDGES

Installing refillable cartridges is almost identical to installing disposable cartridges.

  • Click the  “ink” button on the front of the printer to move the housing for the cartridges to the far right where you can open the door.

On your refillable set there are clear rubber stoppers (the colored one is for refilling). This is the air vent plug. You must REMOVE THE AIR VENT PLUG even though ironically the words “DO NOT REMOVE” are written right next to the air vent. That command is referencing the overall sticker label on the cartridge. I recognize it isn’t very clear packaging. (You can discard the stoppers if you don’t plan on transporting the cartridges outside of your printer.)

Replace any disposable cartridges completely with a complete set of refillable ones. Don’t combine. Snap into place firmly. Click the “ink” button again to start the install.

With this first installation the printer may need to “prime the pump”. You can either hold down the  ink button for 3 seconds to start the cleaning cycle (which lasts around 1 minute) but that doesn’t let you print a test NOZZLE CHECK to see if it was successful. So I recommend this method:

  1. Under PROPERTIES (the same section where you have your print settings when you print) Click on the MAINTENANCE tab.
  2. Run a nozzle check to see if you are already getting clear prints. If indicated, do another head cleaning/nozzle check until clear. You’ll most likely need to do repeat the HEAD CLEANING more than once the first time.

This is also the same process you complete if you have color quality issues.

REFILLING INK CARTRIDGES

Remove the colored plug and simply fill with the needle nose tip on the bottle. I only fill about 7/8 full to prevent overflow. It’s basically mess-free except you can get ink on your hand from small droplets of ink in or around the stopper when you push it back in. You may want to use rubber gloves. I don’t typically listen to my own advice and rarely wear gloves. A pumice stone works very well to remove ink from your hands. OR WATCH THE INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO
